Hailstorms leave marks that are easy to overlook from street level. Our crew climbs up and checks every wall, not just the ones you can see from the curb.
A quick walk around the yard rarely tells the whole story after a hailstorm. Dents, hairline fractures, and worn spots where granules have knocked loose usually only show up once you're close enough, or once the light hits the wall at the right angle. That's why our Hawkeye, IA crews get on a ladder for every elevation instead of guessing from the ground, since the wall that took the worst of the storm often isn't the one facing the road.
How hail affects siding depends heavily on what it's made of. Vinyl often cracks or turns brittle where it's been struck, especially on panels that have already spent years baking in the sun. Fiber cement is more prone to chipping or denting depending on hailstone size and velocity, and wood siding can split right along the grain. We inspect with those differences in mind rather than treating every wall the same way, because hail leaves a different fingerprint on every material.
Once we've confirmed the damage, repairs follow the same standard we'd use for any siding job: matching material, proper fastening, and a check on the flashing hidden underneath. Hail damage is frequently covered by homeowner's insurance, so our crew documents what we find in enough detail to back up a claim, noting where the damage sits, how large it is, and the pattern it follows on each wall. After #YEARS years handling storm repairs around Hawkeye, IA, we've found that a thorough inspection upfront keeps homeowners from underestimating what a storm really did to their siding.
Watch for small dents, cracked spots, or areas where the surface texture looks off when the sun hits it at an angle. Getting a close-up look is really the only way to be sure.
Not necessarily. When the damage is confined to a handful of panels or a single wall, a targeted repair usually does the job. Replacement tends to make more sense when damage is spread across the whole house.
Most homeowner policies include some coverage for hail damage, though the specifics differ from one policy to the next. We can provide documentation to support your claim, but it's worth confirming the details directly with your insurer.
